IAD “CLASS OF 2003” GRADUATES”

More than 150 indigenous students from Central Australia have graduated from nationally-accredited courses or received Statements of Attainments at the Institute for Aboriginal Development (IAD) in Alice Springs today.

The annual graduation ceremony to mark the students’ achievements has been held at the Windmill Restaurant and Function Centre.

The students, aged 18 to 58 and from remote locations including Murpatja homelands and Amata in the heart of the Pitjantjatjarra Land Trust have graduated from courses ranging from general education through to driver education, horticulture and interpreting. 

Yesterday, the Member for Barkly, Elliot McAdam presented the Certificate II in Business to three graduating students and Statements of Attainments to a further eight students at the Tennant Creek Training Centre.

 The Chair of the IAD Board, Graeme Smith said: “On behalf of IAD, I would like to congratulate all of the students on their achievements.

 “With these new skills the, the graduates will be able to improve their lives through employment, further training or in helping to preserve indigenous language and culture in Central Australia.”                                                                                                          

The IAD Director, Eileen Shaw said: “The IAD has a proud history of offering adult education to indigenous students in a culturally sensitive and flexible learning environment for almost 35 years.”
